When we first visited New Zealand for the in 2002, a campaign was on Australian television about NZ – 100% pure, 100% adventure and so on. For six young Aussie blokes, the advertisements were spot on. We found it to be a beautiful place with friendly people and lots of ways to have winter fun. After flying to Christchurch for a few nights, we rented a van for the drive to Queenstown, the adventure capital of NZ. Being September, Christchurch was very cold compared to what we were all used to, so the scene was set for plenty of excitement as we approached the snow of Queenstown.
Some of the lasting memories of the trip were: the helicopter ride, white-water rafting on (and in) the freezing water of the Shotover River, and jet boating; trips up Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers and a good few days of fun on the slopes… of course, washed down with some of the finest beers in the world!!
This place won our hearts, and most of us have returned for subsequent trips since.
